Grain Days 2020

The Australian Association for Granular Media (ANAGRAM) is delighted to host Grain Days 2020. This will be a two day online event, bringing together researchers in the broad field of granular materials. The event will be held on 30 November and 1 December 2020.

Doctoral School (30/11/20, first day)

Particle-based computational methods Grain Days are exclusive to ANAGRAM members. The first day of the event will be a doctoral school on particle-based computational methods (30th November), delivered by three lecturers. The first lecturer, Dr François Guillard from the University of Sydney, will provide an introduction to methods in the field, bridging particle and continuum scales. Dr Klaus Thoeni from the University of Newcastle, the second lecturer, will teach the grain-scale Discrete Element Method and its implementation through the software YADE. Finally, A/Prof Ha Bui from Monash University, will move up the scales to continuum and cover Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH).

Research Forum (1/12/20, second day)

Brief presentations followed by virtual posters on Gather The second day of Grain Days will start with a round of short teaser presentations by ANAGRAM members (e.g. you), followed by a virtual poster session where the presenters will have an opportunity to interact with the audience in a virtual environment. Here, the audience will be able to walk around a virtual room, from one speaker to another, to ask more detailed questions on their previously presented teasers. To present your work in this session, please submit your abstract and register here.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) (1/12/20, second day)

The next AGM will be on the 1st of December for all ANAGRAM members. If you would like to join the committee, please apply. Nominations must be made in writing, signed by two members of the association and accompanied by the written consent of the candidate (which may be endorsed on the form of the nomination, which you can download here), and must be delivered to the secretary of the association at least 7 days before the date fixed for the holding of the annual general meeting at which the election is to take place.
